Well striktly speaking these gorgeous snakeskin heels by a new label discovery of mine: CO-OP of Barneys New York; are really a coal tarred charcoal snakeskin, burnished with flickers of red and silver. The soft point, the eighties style angular heel, the unique finish and wide elastic band embracing the top of the foot all combine to make this amazing court shoe.

Siren: Kate Moss cast in gold for the Statuephilia exhibition at the British Museum by the artist Marc Quinn. He has dubbed the sculpture as symbolic of a current public figure that has become as iconic a beauty as the goddesses of the ancient world. Such as Aphrodite herself and as such is now showing in the Egyptian rooms in the museum.

I imagined the sculpture would have been larger than it was, as it is - stands at roughly the size of an eight year old child. But this only perpetuates the ‘Sirens’ iconism, the image and persona being larger than life itself.

‘The mask of Tutankhamun is one of the first artworks ever I remember seeing – it was in the early 1970s in the British Museum show, and that was one of the inspirations of this work as well. Like that mask, Siren is an image that glows and gives out love and light but remains completely implacable and silent. I think of both of them as sculptures of a cultural superego.’

I came across these sorting out some tremendously disorganised hard drives this morning and thought of sharing them with you. Back in the days when I first had an abode in Shoreditch. Though it was more like a home coming as I tended to gravitate there for one reason or another over the years previous to moving to the area.

I was still in the throws of fashion design being my major concern. The dress in the central photo is from a label called Milla - London, from their first collection. The label hasn’t been the same since Caz, Jo and I departed. Fur coats from eBay.

Enough misty reminiscing…
